This coming Thursday – 28th March – at 7pm we're holding a free online student and alumni reading. Join us to hear a variety of different work from students on the programmes to published writers.

The evening will be hosted by award-winning poet and tutor John McCullough.

This event is exclusively for writers and alumni of the Creative Writing Programme and poetry courses and their friends and partners. Tickets are free but you do need to book to have access to the event link. Book your tickets herehttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/the-creative-writing-programme-38123377583

The Creative Writing Programme (CWP) offers five readings a year - two in spring, two in summer and one in the autumn. They're a chance for our students and alumni to read some of their work and for fellow students to hear from their peers. If you'd like to read from your work at future readings, please contact Cathy Hayward on cathy@creativewritingprogramme.org.uk Our next readings are on 9th May at Kemptown Bookshop and 20th June online. There are spaces available to read at both events.

Creative Future’s annual Writers' Award open for entries from underrepresented writers

by Cathy Hayward -

Creative Future Award

The Creative Future Writers' Award is the only free to enter national competition for all underrepresented writers.

Fifteen writers in three categories will receive:

  • £23,000 worth of cash and development prizes
  • be published in Creative Future’s anthology and eBook
  • read at their showcase as part of the London Literature Festival 2024
  • receive ongoing development support from Creative Future

The award is open to all writers whose stories are underrepresented in mainstream publishing including those who face barriers due to mental health challenges, physical or learning disability, neurodiversity, survivors, and those from LGBTQIA+, working class and/or Black, Asian and global majority backgrounds.

“I was really pleased to win a Creative Future Writers’ Award 2019. What I didn’t realise then was that I’d met a long term creative partner. It’s now 2023 and I can honestly say it’s the gift that keeps on giving. Creative Future have helped me to write my first novel, to facilitate creative workshops, and to gain skills and experience. They’ve helped countless new writers to find their voice and their place in this world.”

Susan Downer, 2019 Platinum Award Winner

The theme of the award this year is ‘Reveal’. Poetry (up to 50 lines) short fiction and creative non-fiction (up to 2,000 words) should be submitted before the deadline on Sunday 19 May 2024.

More information, including how to apply, can be found at: bit.ly/CFWA2024
