    Autumn: 4th October - 17th December (Reading Week 25th – 29th October)

    Spring: 10th January – 25th March (Reading Week 14th – 18th February)

    Summer: 25th April – 27th May (Monday classes on the 2nd May Bank Holiday will be rescheduled to the same times on Friday 6th May)

    AUTUMN TERM 

    For blended groups the first three weeks of term from the 4th October to the 22nd October will be taught face to face at the Phoenix.

    After Reading Week (25th - 29th), courses will go online from the 1st November to 10th December.

    We are hoping to make the final week of term (13th - 17th December) a face to face week, but we will need to review this in the light of any changes to Covid social distancing regulations.

    WEEKEND SCHOOLS

    Weekend Schools will be held on the Weekends of 14/20/21& 27/28 November and 4/5 & 11/12 December. 

    Spring Weekend Schools: 5th, 6th, 12th, 13th March

    Publishing Day weekend of 21st, 22nd May

    SUBMISSIONS WEEK

    10th - 14th January for submissions for Approaches and Story Structure. Story and Form courses

    27th June - 1st July for Writing Workshops, Tactics and Memory and Imagination courses

    Julie worked on her first draft of 'Tell Me No Secrets' when she was taking the Creative Writing Programme in 2007. She has gone on to write two further novels 'Where The Truth Lies' and 'Do Me No Harm'.

    Belonging by Umi Sinha

    Umi's debut novel is an intense, compelling and finely wrought epic of love and loss, of race and ethnicity, of homeland - and of belonging.     CJ Sansom

    Chris Sansom is another writer who completed the Creative Writing Programme a few years ago and has gone on to establish himself as a well-respected writer of historical thrillers - you may have read some of his Shardlake books. Winter in Madrid is set during the Spanish Civil War and is a wonderful, taut and well paced political thriller.

    Robyn is another writer who has gone on to establish herself professionally as a historical fiction writer. She was working on her first novel 'Brethren' whilst on the Writing Programme at Sussex. She has just finished her sixth novel, the third in a second trilogy of history novels called 'Insurrection'. Her first trilogy is named after her first novel, 'Brethren'

    Bronwen Griffith's 'A Bird in the House'

    Bronwen's first novel was published last year by Three Hares Publishing. 'A Bird in the House' is about loss, secrets and the redeeming power of friendship. The story is about Mohamed and his young son Ahmed, who flee war-torn Libya after the death of Mohamed's wife. Arriving in England, the stumble, headlong into the seemingly tranquil world of Betty, a widow, who has been left to cope with her seven-year old great niece, Savannah, for the summer.
