With schools reopening this week, there's a definite new-term vibe in the air - which is the perfect opportunity to commit to a new writing routine. Here novelist, short story writer, playwright and CWP tutor Hannah Vincent offers her top five writing tips.
- Write every day – this doesn’t mean you have to sit at a proper writing desk. Just do what you can to keep your project/s live.
- Make yours an embodied practice – if your character is walking through woodland take yourself off to some woods
- Read loads – read for research and read for pleasure… make your reading broad and deep
- Study hard and learn from other writers but don’t be afraid to try something new
- Find your community
If you're looking to cement your writing practice this autumn, why not sign up for the Advanced Writing Workshops - a year-long course with author and CWP tutor Laura Wilkinson where you join a community of writers who are committed to finishing novels or collections of short stories and who are looking for a critical and supportive audience for their work in progress. The workshops are a place where writers can meet regularly to discuss the creative process and inspire and energise each other.
