Hi everyone, welcome back to the new term. Just a few reminders before teaching properly begins:

Submission Week: 24th June-1st July for Writing Workshops and the Tactics for Writing courses

On Saturday 18th May, we’re holding our annual Publishing Day, which is a chance for you to find out more about the book publishing world and how to go about getting your work published. It’s primarily aimed at second year students, but anyone is welcome. It’s 10-4pm and all online.

That’s followed on Sunday 19th May by Script Consultations These are aimed at students in their second year, those on the Advanced Writers Workshops and alumni of the programme. During the script consultation, you will have an opportunity to discuss your work in a twenty minute one-to-one consultation with one of our visiting agents. You must have completed the first draft of their manuscript/ collection of stories in order to qualify for a script consultation. Again this is online and the deadline for sending in extracts of your work is 1st May. All the details are on Eventbrite.

We also have a couple of student and alumni readings this term: in-person on 9th May at Kemptown Bookshop and on 20th June online. There are a couple of spaces for students to read at both events so do drop Cathy a note to arrange this. (cathy@creativewritingprogramme.org.uk). And sign up to hear from other students.

We’re also running a couple of short courses over the summer:

Writing Otherness: how do we write different perspectives from our own? A two-day in-person course on 20-21 June, run by Sharlene Teo, which will explore ways of navigating and presenting characters in fiction by confronting our biases, privileges & stereotyped perceptions.

Creative Writing for Teenagers: a week-long course in the summer holidays (29 July-2 August) for 13-16 year olds to help them to understand the craft of writing and produce their own short story.

Finally, enrolment is open for next year’s courses and we’re running a range of taster sessions in July and September. See Eventbrite. As well as the usual two-year CWP course, we’ll be running the two-year Life Writing course, the Advanced Writing Workshops and more poetry courses. Please do share with anyone you know who might be interested.

Have a great start to the summer term.

Cathy
